I have mold/mildew in my 'locs. I've been denying it for a while, but as I was cooking this weekend and a few of my 'locs fell in my hair. I got a strong whiff of mildew. I freaked out and have had my hair in a ponytail ever since.
After I calmed down, I did some web research and discovered that it's a common occurrence, especially when you air dry your 'locs...which I do.
So tonight, before I wash my hair, I have to douse it in witch hazel! Believe it or not, that's the better option...others include Seabreeze and rubbing alcohol. Ewwww!

See, this is why I got rid of the 'locks...too much maintenance. I hate brushing/picking my hair...that's how lazy I am...
Thursday night I am calling you mildew head.
OK, I won't. But I'll think it. Just once, but I'll think it. ;-)
Woman, if that's the worst thing that happens to you today you're in good shape. Trust me. As a blonde with fairly straight hair I'm an expert in the care and feeding 'locs...? Where was I going with that? I'm tired and my boss is a bitch, that's my excuse.
That's funny, Rover. Even with the mildew problem...I still think that my 'locs are SO much easier than when I had a relaxer. They are also MUCH cheaper. And healthier...my hair has not grown this long since I was 12 years old.
This is true. You must remember the haircut I had before (and the one that I rock now) - no fuss! But I can see how it would be heaven for you. That's why my moms rocks a TIGHT 'fro...
And you forgot to mention, Rover, how much better I look with 'locs. :) See you tomorrow!
Why not cut off the mildow rid locks? Are they all mildew'd??? can you cut them shorter- can you preen out the troublesome ones?
